Apple's smartphone shipments in China declined by 9% in the first quarter compared to a year earlier, according to data from research firm IDC. Apple was the only major manufacturer to experience a decline in the market.
The company, which ranks fifth in China's smartphone market, saw shipments fall to 9.8 million phones, resulting in a market share of 13.7%, down from 17.4% in the previous quarter. This marks Apple's seventh consecutive quarter of decline in China.
IDC analysts attribute Apple's premium pricing structure as a factor preventing it from capitalizing on new government subsidies introduced in January. These subsidies refund consumers 15% on products under 6,000 yuan, benefiting competitors like Xiaomi, whose shipments surged 40%.
