ABB will develop a high-resolution infrared interferometer system for the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Himawari-10 satellite. This system will power L3Harris’ next-generation atmospheric sounder.
The interferometric system onboard the Himawari-10 satellite, built by Mitsubishi Electric, is designed to map in 3D the temperature and humidity over the Asia-Pacific region. This will provide crucial meteorological data.
With ABB’s interferometer technology, the information gathered by the new sounder is expected to be more than 100 times richer than currently available. This enhances capabilities for weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
