On December 27, 2024, Mahdi Sadeghi, a former engineer at Analog Devices, Inc., pleaded not guilty in federal court in Boston to charges of illegally procuring technology for an Iranian firm. Sadeghi, who was fired by Analog Devices after his December 16 arrest, is accused of engaging in a scheme to violate U.S. export control and sanctions laws.
Prosecutors allege that Sadeghi, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen, helped procure U.S.-origin electronic components on behalf of Mohammad Abedini, head of an Iranian navigation systems manufacturer. Abedini's company, San'at Danesh Rahpooyan Aflak Co., is identified as a primary customer of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, producing navigation systems used in its military drone program.
The electronic components allegedly obtained by Abedini included the same type used in a drone that struck a U.S. outpost in Jordan in January 2024, killing three U.S. service members. Sadeghi took a job at Analog Devices in 2019 and is accused of assisting Abedini in procuring U.S. technology through a Switzerland front company.
