Aethlon Medical, Inc. announced on March 10, 2025, the publication of a preclinical study in the peer-reviewed journal Transplant Immunology. The study, published on February 28, 2025, is titled "A lectin affinity plasmapheresis device removes extracellular vesicles and microRNAs from renal perfusates following controlled oxygenated rewarming of discarded donor kidneys." The study demonstrated significant reductions in extracellular vesicles (EVs) and microRNAs from the perfusion fluid of discarded kidneys. These findings suggest that the Hemopurifier could potentially improve the function of retrieved kidneys, addressing complications like delayed function and organ rejection in transplantation. This preclinical data indicates an expanded therapeutic potential for the Hemopurifier beyond its current focus in virology and oncology. While further evaluation is needed, including clinical trials, the results support the possibility of integrating the Hemopurifier into existing organ preservation technologies.
