Aeva Technologies and D2 Traffic Technologies announced an exclusive partnership that will combine Aeva’s 4D LiDAR sensors with D2’s veteran ITS team to deliver end‑to‑end smart‑infrastructure solutions for U.S. intersections, highways, and urban corridors.

The deal marks a strategic pivot for Aeva, which has historically focused on automotive LiDAR. By integrating D2’s expertise in traffic management, Aeva can now offer a complete perception, monitoring, and analytics stack that extends from raw sensing to real‑time decision support for municipalities. D2’s team brings deep knowledge of traffic control systems, while Aeva’s 4D LiDAR uniquely measures both position and velocity, providing a privacy‑preserving alternative to camera‑based solutions and enabling more accurate vehicle and pedestrian detection in complex environments.

The U.S. ITS market is sizable, with roughly 15 million intersections and more than 300 000 traffic signals that collectively generate over $20 billion in annual congestion costs. The partnership aims to reduce those costs through real‑time safety improvements, congestion mitigation, and sustainability gains, positioning Aeva as a key player in a market that is rapidly adopting connected‑infrastructure technologies.

James Byun, Managing Director of Business Development at Aeva, said, “The D2 team brings strong leadership and industry expertise in smart infrastructure, and we’re excited to welcome them to Aeva. Together, our technology and expertise will provide streamlined full‑stack ITS solutions from LiDAR sensing to perception and analytics to enhance traffic safety, reduce congestion, and deliver smarter mobility experiences for cities and citizens alike.” Sooyoung Kang, Founder of D2 Traffic Technologies, added, “In Aeva, we found a partner with the technology, resources and vision to take that mission to become a market leader in ITS. Together, we are empowering cities with the tools they need to build smarter, safer infrastructure that works for everyone.”

Aeva previously announced in July that D2 had selected its 4D LiDAR for a pilot program, but the November announcement formalizes an exclusive partnership and signals Aeva’s broader strategy to expand beyond automotive into smart infrastructure, manufacturing automation, and robotics. The move aligns with Aeva’s July “Day” event, which highlighted the company’s diverse applications and partnerships.

The partnership positions Aeva to capture a growing share of the U.S. ITS market, leveraging its velocity‑sensing LiDAR to deliver higher‑accuracy traffic data and analytics. By combining sensor hardware with D2’s proven traffic‑control expertise, the alliance is expected to accelerate deployment of smart‑infrastructure solutions that improve safety, reduce congestion, and support sustainability goals for municipalities across the country.
