Agilon Health announced the publication of new peer-reviewed data in the May 16, 2025, issue of the JAMA Health Forum, examining the impact of gender differences among primary care physicians (PCPs) within its value-based care (VBC) model. The study analyzed nearly 900 PCPs and approximately 225,000 Medicare Advantage patients.

The research found that patients managed by women PCPs in Agilon's VBC model experienced equal or better clinical and quality outcomes and less healthcare utilization. This highlights the effectiveness of the VBC approach in fostering high-quality, efficient care.

Additionally, the study observed that women physicians earned more per patient under the VBC model, indicating a reversal of the gender pay gap. This suggests that value-based payment models may align better with practice patterns common in women physicians, such as spending more face-to-face time with patients.
