Akamai Technologies announced on February 25, 2025, the introduction of a Managed Container Service designed for enterprises seeking to deliver better experiences by running workloads closer to users, devices, and data sources. This new service significantly advances Akamai's cloud computing strategy and is enabled across the company's global presence, spanning over 700 cities and more than 4,300 points of presence. Akamai is currently testing the service with customer applications in over 100 cities. The Managed Container Service allows businesses to run data-intensive workloads closer to end-users, leveraging Akamai's full-stack cloud computing infrastructure, including GPUs, VPUs, object storage, and managed database services. This is crucial for business-critical workloads that serve high volumes of concurrent users while requiring predictable performance. Adam Karon, Akamai COO and GM, Cloud Technology Group, stated that customers can take advantage of Akamai's global presence to run and scale their workloads while maintaining predictable costs. IDC Research VP Dave McCarthy noted that the service underscores Akamai's commitment to providing highly responsive infrastructure for consistent user experiences, whether applications run in a central cloud region or across Akamai's distributed locations.
