Applied Ventures, LLC, the venture capital arm of Applied Materials, Inc., has made a Series A investment in Qolab, a leading innovator in quantum computing hardware. This investment signifies Applied Materials' strategic interest in advancing the development and scalable manufacturing of superconducting qubits. Beyond the financial investment, Applied Materials and Qolab have collaborated on a detailed technical roadmap paper titled 'How to Build a Quantum Supercomputer: Scaling from Hundreds to Millions of Qubits.' This paper outlines a strategy for achieving scalable quantum computing architectures. Dr. Robert Visser, Vice President in the Office of the CTO at Applied Materials, stated that the collaboration aims to develop processes for creating superconducting qubits with much lower error rates and better uniformity. This is a critical step towards accelerating the development of large-scale quantum computing, leveraging Applied Materials' expertise in materials engineering.
