LG Electronics and Ambarella, Inc. announced on December 4, 2024, a collaboration to advance AI-driven in-cabin vehicle safety solutions. LG will showcase its latest in-cabin solution, developed in partnership with Ambarella, during CES 2025. This partnership leverages Ambarella's CV25 AI system-on-chip (SoC) to enhance vehicle safety. Ambarella's CV25 chipset is integrated into LG’s Driver Monitoring System (DMS), which is already in production with a global automotive OEM. The CV25, manufactured using 10-nanometer process technology, provides industry-leading AI performance per watt. It enables real-time analysis of high-resolution video from in-vehicle cameras, supporting accurate object recognition and high energy efficiency. LG’s VisionWare, part of its AlphaWare mobility software portfolio, utilizes the CV25 to accurately detect subtle eye and head movements of the driver. The system employs AI to determine driver distraction or drowsiness, even if the driver is wearing accessories like sunglasses or a hat. This collaboration aims to help automotive OEMs meet New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and General Safety Regulation (GSR) standards.
