Amcor plc announced on November 28, 2024, a strategic collaboration agreement with Kolon Industries Inc., a South Korean chemical materials manufacturer. The partnership focuses on co-developing and commercializing more sustainable polyester materials for selected applications within Amcor's flexible packaging business.

The collaboration will explore technological advancements in chemically recycled PET (crPET) and polyethylene furanoate (PEF) materials. Kolon is pioneering an advanced recycling process to produce new PET from post-consumer bottles, fibers, and flexible packaging, supporting Amcor's commitment to integrate 30% post-consumer recycled materials by 2030.

Kolon's PEF material, derived from 100% sustainable biomass, offers improved product protection and a lower product carbon footprint, contributing to Amcor's net-zero ambitions by 2050. This partnership enhances Amcor's efforts to provide customers with innovative, more sustainable packaging solutions.
