Amazon and Google Launch Joint Multicloud Networking Solution to Accelerate Private Connectivity

Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud today unveiled a new multicloud networking service that combines AWS Interconnect‑multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross‑Cloud Interconnect. The solution delivers private, high‑speed connectivity between the two platforms, allowing customers to provision dedicated bandwidth on demand and establish inter‑cloud links in minutes instead of the weeks that were required for traditional private connections.

The partnership is strategically significant because it removes a major barrier to multicloud adoption. By publishing an open specification for network interoperability, the two vendors give enterprises a cloud‑native experience that automates routing, addressing, and policy management across AWS and Google Cloud. The service is especially timely for AI workloads, which often need to move large datasets between specialized services on different clouds. The new connectivity also mitigates the risk of single‑cloud outages, a concern that was highlighted by the AWS outage in October that cost U.S. companies an estimated $500‑$650 million.

From a business perspective, the joint offering creates a new revenue stream for AWS and strengthens Google Cloud’s position in the multicloud market, which is projected to grow from $2.7 billion in 2024 to $12.26 billion by 2031. Early adopters such as Salesforce have already integrated the service, citing the ability to establish secure, private bridges to Google Cloud with the same ease as deploying internal AWS resources. The open specification also invites other providers to join the ecosystem, potentially expanding the market beyond the two vendors.

Management emphasized the strategic value of the partnership. Robert Kennedy, VP of Network Services at AWS, said the collaboration “represents a fundamental shift in multicloud connectivity” and that the open standard “removes the complexity of any physical components for customers.” Rob Enns, VP and General Manager of Cloud Networking at Google Cloud, highlighted the service’s ability to “simplify global connectivity and enhance operational effectiveness.” Salesforce’s Jim Ostrognai noted that the solution “accelerates our ability to ground AI and analytics in trusted data, regardless of where it resides.”

The announcement was well received by investors, with Amazon and Alphabet shares moving higher in the days following the release. Analysts cited the partnership’s potential to drive incremental revenue for AWS, reduce outage risk, and expand Google Cloud’s enterprise reach as key drivers of the positive market reaction.

The joint multicloud networking solution positions both AWS and Google Cloud to better serve enterprises that demand resilience, low‑latency data movement, and a seamless multicloud experience. As AI workloads continue to grow, the partnership is likely to become a cornerstone of both vendors’ strategies to capture a larger share of the expanding multicloud market.
