Applied Digital Corporation announced its plans to break ground in September 2025 on Polaris Forge 2, a new $3 billion, 280-megawatt (MW) AI Factory near Harwood, North Dakota. This expansion further solidifies North Dakota's role as a strategic location for AI infrastructure in the United States. The Polaris Forge 2 campus is designed with the ability to scale beyond its initial 280 MW, with initial capacity expected in 2026 and full capacity projected for early 2027. Applied Digital has contracted more than 900 acres for the campus and has secured power through Cass County Electric Cooperative, addressing critical bottlenecks in AI infrastructure development. This new project builds on the success of the company's Polaris Forge 1 Ellendale campus and is a direct response to the surging demand for AI computing capacity from hyperscalers, enterprises, and research organizations. The facility is expected to employ over 200 full-time employees once fully operational, in addition to long-term contractors. Applied Digital is also in advanced negotiations with a U.S.-based investment-grade hyperscaler for this new campus.
