Japan’s Rapidus, a new chipmaker, is reportedly planning to provide 2-nanometer (nm) chip samples to Broadcom Inc. starting in June 2025. This initiative is part of Rapidus's broader strategy to emulate the market dominance of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC). Rapidus is actively co-developing International Business Machines Corp.'s (IBM) 2-nm node technology, which will be implemented at Rapidus’s fabrication facility. This collaboration aims to advance cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing. For Broadcom, this development signifies a potential new avenue for sourcing advanced process technology, diversifying its supply chain beyond its primary reliance on major foundries like TSMC. Access to 2-nm technology is crucial for developing next-generation high-performance chips.
