American Express announced on March 6, 2025, that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Center, a software company specializing in modernizing expense management. This acquisition aims to create a seamless expense management platform by integrating Center’s software with American Express’ corporate and small business cards. The strategic rationale behind this acquisition is to deliver more value across the commercial card payments process, from premium card offerings and rewards to automated accounting and reconciliation. Raymond Joabar, Group President, Global Commercial Services at American Express, stated that integrating Center’s talent and technology will save customers time and money and strengthen American Express's leadership in commercial card payments. Center’s software is designed to remove friction from expense management by providing real-time visibility into employee spending, automating manual accounting tasks, and streamlining expense submissions. The acquisition is expected to close within the second quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
