On March 19, 2025, Booz Allen Hamilton announced that its Ventures portfolio company, Albedo, successfully launched Clarity-1. This marks the first commercial satellite to operate in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO), representing a significant milestone in commercial space innovation.
The launch introduces a breakthrough capability, delivering 10 cm visible and 2-meter thermal imagery from VLEO, resolutions previously limited to aircraft and drones. This technology will enhance capabilities for Earth observation and national security use cases across government and industry.
This achievement comes just over a year after Booz Allen Ventures' strategic investment in Albedo, demonstrating the rapid acceleration of developing commercial technology to meet critical government needs. The technology is already playing an important role in the U.S. government’s space strategy through a Strategic Funding Increase contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory.
