Westinghouse, owned by Brookfield Asset Management, plans to build 10 large nuclear reactors in the U.S., with construction slated to begin by 2030. Interim CEO Dan Sumner stated that building these AP1000 reactors would generate $75 billion of economic value across the U.S., with $6 billion in Pennsylvania.
Each AP1000 reactor generates enough electricity to power over 750,000 homes. This initiative aligns with President Donald Trump's executive orders aiming to quadruple nuclear power in the U.S. by 2050 and calls for 10 large nuclear reactors under construction by 2030.
Westinghouse also announced a partnership with Google to use AI tools to make the construction of AP1000s an efficient, repeatable process. This collaboration leverages technology to enhance critical infrastructure development, reinforcing Brookfield's integrated approach to energy and AI infrastructure.
