Couchbase Names BJ Schaknowski as CEO and Amir Jafari as CFO

On September 29, 2025, Couchbase, Inc. announced that BJ Schaknowski will serve as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer and Amir Jafari will become Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. The appointment follows the departure of Matt Cain, who is stepping down as Chair, President, and CEO. Mr. Schaknowski brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience, most recently as CEO of symplr where he launched the first non‑clinical integrated Operations Platform for the U.S. healthcare industry and more than tripled the company’s size. Prior to symplr, he held senior roles at Vertafore, LexisNexis Software Solutions, CA Technologies, Intuit, and Sage Software, and served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Jafari joins Couchbase from Blend Labs, where he was Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance & Operations. He has a track record of scaling technology companies through public and private growth stages and has held CFO positions at multiple firms, as well as finance and product leadership roles at ServiceNow. His expertise in financial transformation and operational excellence is expected to support Couchbase’s growth initiatives.
