U.S. energy firms cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for a seventh consecutive week, reaching the lowest level since November 2021, Baker Hughes reported on June 13, 2025. This prolonged decline indicates a significant and sustained contraction in drilling activity across the United States. The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell by four to 559 in the week to June 6, marking the lowest total since November 2021. Oil rigs decreased by nine to 442, while gas rigs rose by five to 114. This trend reflects a cautious sentiment among producers amid market volatility and potential oversupply concerns. The continued reduction in active rigs presents a challenging operational landscape for the oilfield services sector.
