Blackbaud announced that its JustGiving platform for peer-to-peer fundraising now enables cryptocurrency donations for U.S. nonprofits. This feature, already integrated in the U.K., extends to U.S. fundraising pages that are DAF-enabled to receive funds through The Blackbaud Giving Fund. The new capability allows hundreds of thousands of U.S. charities to accept over 60 different forms of cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and popular memecoins. Blackbaud partnered with The Giving Block to facilitate this, ensuring cryptocurrency funds are automatically and instantly converted to U.S. dollars to eliminate price volatility concerns for charities. This innovation taps into a growing donor demographic, with an estimated $1 billion in cryptocurrency donated to nonprofits in 2024. Donors can benefit from capital gains tax relief, providing a compelling reason to contribute, while nonprofits gain access to a new, advantageous funding source to support their missions.
