B2Gold Corp. announced the completion and operational status of the Phase 2 expansion of its Fekola Solar Plant in Mali, with the expansion becoming operational in January 2025. Construction for this phase commenced in June 2023, with physical equipment installation ramping up in February 2024.

The expansion added 46,200 solar panels, increasing the total panel count to 142,912, and boosting solar capacity by an additional 22 megawatts (MW) to a total of 52 MW. It also added 12.7 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery capacity, bringing the total to 27.7 MWh.

This expanded facility is expected to reduce annual emissions by an estimated 63,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and decrease the annual consumption of heavy fuel oil by approximately 20 million liters. The Fekola Solar Plant is now projected to supply about 30% of the site’s total electricity demand, marking a significant step in B2Gold's decarbonization efforts.
