Cibus, Inc. announced a material transfer agreement with Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), which participates in the Hybrid Rice Consortium for Latin America (HIAAL). This agreement will provide Cibus’ proprietary HT3 clethodim herbicide tolerance trait for introduction into HIAAL’s elite rice germplasm.
This partnership marks a significant step in Cibus’s goal to deliver high-performance rice hybrids with advanced weed control technology to farmers across Latin America. The HT3 trait has demonstrated strong performance in multi-location field trials in the United States.
Peter Beetham, Interim CEO of Cibus, stated that this initial agreement is the first step to expanding commercial access and providing gene-edited traits that enhance productivity and sustainability for LATAM rice farmers. The collaboration leverages HIAAL's regional expertise and extensive germplasm bank.
