Constellation Energy and Meta Platforms have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the entire output of Constellation's Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois. Starting in June 2027, Meta will purchase approximately 1.1 gigawatts of emissions-free nuclear energy to support its clean energy goals and regional operations. This agreement is crucial for the Clinton plant, as it secures its long-term operations and supports its relicensing, effectively replacing the expiring state zero-emissions credit program. The deal also includes a 30-megawatt expansion of the plant's output through nuclear uprates. The partnership is expected to preserve 1,100 high-paying local jobs, generate $13.5 million in annual tax revenue, and contribute $1 million in charitable giving to local nonprofits over five years. Constellation is also evaluating the potential to develop an advanced nuclear reactor or small modular reactor (SMR) at the Clinton site.
