Cummins Inc. and Liberty Energy Inc. announced the deployment of the industry's first natural gas variable speed, large displacement engine to power Liberty's digiPrime hydraulic fracturing platform. This system is scheduled for deployment in the first half of 2025, following a strategic partnership established in June 2024. The system utilizes Cummins' HSK78G natural gas engine, a 3,000 horsepower unit, as a direct drive solution. This configuration is expected to deliver reduced fuel costs and achieve one of the lowest emissions profiles in the completions market. A key benefit of the HSK78G variable speed engine is its projected four-fold increase in life to overhaul maintenance interval compared to a standard diesel engine, leading to significant savings. The engine is also designed for adaptability across various gas compositions and well-servicing transmissions, and will be EPA Mobile Off highway and CSA compliant.
