Centene announced that its Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan brand will offer health‑insurance plans in 150 Texas counties for the 2026 plan year, covering a majority of the state’s population.
Open enrollment for the new plans begins on November 1, 2025, with coverage effective January 1, 2026.
The expansion brings Ambetter into roughly 70% of Texas’s population, adding a large potential membership base and revenue stream to Centene’s commercial Marketplace segment.
The move follows Centene’s recent launches of Ambetter in other states and is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its Ambetter brand nationwide. The increased scale is expected to enhance pricing power and operational efficiencies, supporting the company’s goal of improving profitability across its Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial segments.
Centene’s Q3 2025 results showed a GAAP loss of $13.50 per share due to a $6.7 billion goodwill impairment, while adjusted EPS was $0.50. The company raised its 2025 adjusted EPS forecast to at least $2.00 but withdrew its 2025 earnings guidance in July 2025 after a $1.8 billion shortfall in expected risk‑adjustment revenue for its ACA Marketplace business.
Texas health‑insurance premiums are projected to rise 33% for the individual marketplace in 2026, with some plans seeing increases over 40%. Centene’s expansion occurs within this context of rising costs and evolving market dynamics.
Centene faces competition from UnitedHealth Group, Anthem, and Humana, but its extensive network and localized service delivery position it to capture market share in the newly covered counties.
