Cinemark announced a partnership with IMAX to install IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm film systems in 17 theaters across the United States and South America. The agreement includes four new IMAX with Laser systems in the U.S., one additional location in South America under exploration, and upgrades to twelve existing U.S. IMAX systems to IMAX with Laser, making the entire U.S. IMAX footprint laser‑equipped. Three new IMAX 70mm film projection systems will be installed at Cinemark Seven Bridges in Woodridge, IL; Cinemark Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs, CO; and Cinemark Tinseltown in Rochester, NY.
The 70mm installations are timed to precede the July 17, 2026 release of Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey," the first theatrical release shot entirely in IMAX film. The move positions Cinemark as one of the few theaters worldwide—around 30 locations globally—to offer the 70mm format, expanding access beyond major film hubs.
Cinemark’s CEO Sean Gamble said the upgrades aim to deliver elevated cinematic experiences, differentiate the chain from competitors, and drive higher ticket and concession revenue. The investment aligns with the company’s broader technology and experience initiatives and strengthens relationships with major studios, potentially securing exclusive or early releases in premium formats.
The expansion is expected to boost Cinemark’s premium format mix, which historically accounts for a sizable portion of box office and concession revenue, supporting long‑term value creation.
