Delta Air Lines announced that President Glen Hauenstein will retire on February 28 2026 after 21 years with the carrier. Hauenstein will remain on the board as a strategic advisor through the end of 2026, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership.

Hauenstein joined Delta in 2005 and has been credited with building the airline’s global network, launching its premium‑class strategy, and establishing joint‑venture partnerships. His departure marks the end of an era in which Delta transformed from a regional carrier into a leading global airline.

Joe Esposito, a 35‑year Delta veteran who most recently served as senior vice president of network planning, pricing and revenue management, has been promoted to executive vice president and chief commercial officer. Esposito will continue the commercial strategy that Hauenstein helped create, with a focus on expanding the premium product and strengthening the loyalty program.

Delta’s recent performance underscores the importance of this transition. The airline has seen robust demand in its premium segments and is expanding its transatlantic network for summer 2026. Hauenstein’s legacy includes the adoption of AI‑driven fare‑setting and fleet modernization initiatives that have improved operational efficiency and customer experience.

CEO Ed Bastian praised Hauenstein’s vision, saying, “Glen’s strategic mindset has been essential in transforming Delta into the leading global airline we are today.” Esposito added, “I am humbled to build on Glen’s legacy and lead the teams he developed as we envision Delta’s next 100 years.”

The leadership transition is expected to maintain momentum in Delta’s commercial strategy and network expansion, with no immediate operational disruptions anticipated. The company’s focus on premium travel and strategic growth remains unchanged under the new leadership structure.
