Dayforce, Inc. released a survey of Australian executives on September 29, 2024, indicating that over two-thirds of polled organizations believe Australia's new 'right to disconnect' legislation will significantly impact their operations. This legislation, effective August 26, 2024, protects employees from employer contact outside working hours unless refusal is unreasonable.
The survey, which included 86 professionals, found that only 28% of respondents believed the legislation would improve work-life balance for employees, and just 14% thought it would enhance employee retention. Compliance management was cited as the biggest barrier to high performance for 30% of organizations, with labor laws and regulations being the chief challenge for almost two-thirds of respondents.
Brian Donn, Managing Director, APJ at Dayforce, Inc., stated that these results highlight the growing complexity Australian employers navigate, including increased compliance risk. The findings underscore the importance of fostering strong connections and investing in efficiencies through processes and innovative technology.
