Dow Inc. announced on March 10, 2025, an equity stake in Xycle, a Rotterdam-based pioneer in advanced recycling technology. This investment, made alongside partners ING, Invest-NL, Polestar Capital, and Vopak, marks a significant milestone in Dow's commitment to transforming plastic waste into high-value materials and accelerating a circular economy for plastics. The collective funds will support the construction of Xycle's first commercial-scale advanced recycling plant.

The new facility, strategically located in the Port of Rotterdam, is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. It is projected to have a plastic waste processing capacity of 21 kilotons annually. Dow will serve as an off-taker of the circular feedstock produced by Xycle, utilizing it to manufacture new circular plastics that are in high demand from global customers and brands.

Xycle's advanced recycling technology employs low-temperature pyrolysis to efficiently break down difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. This process increases the liquid fraction available for use as cracker feedstock in new plastic production, enabling the creation of virgin-quality plastics for high-value applications such as food-grade packaging, medical, and automotive components.
