EVgo Inc. has announced that more than 40 % of its charging stations deployed in 2025 were built on domestically manufactured prefabricated modular skids, a development that has accelerated the company’s network rollout and cut installation costs by an average of 15 %. The prefabricated units, which can accommodate up to 14 vehicles at a time and feature 350 kW fast chargers, are now operational in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, New York, and Texas, with additional sites under construction in North Carolina and Utah.
The prefabrication model reduces on‑site labor and streamlines installation, cutting the time required to bring a station online by roughly 50 %. By assembling all components on a single base frame in a controlled factory environment, EVgo has achieved a 15 % reduction in installation costs, a figure that was projected when the program was first introduced in November 2023. The high‑power 350 kW chargers enable rapid charging for long‑range electric vehicles, positioning EVgo to meet the growing demand for fast charging across the United States.
EVgo’s partnership with Miller Electric, a Jacksonville‑based electrical contractor that employs more than 1,400 people, underscores the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing and job creation. The prefabricated skids are a strategic enabler that allows EVgo to scale its network more efficiently, supporting its goal of deploying 14,400 stalls by the end of 2029—a target updated from 14,000 stalls in August 2025. The accelerated rollout also helps the company stay competitive against rivals such as Electrify America while meeting the projected need for fast‑charging infrastructure as EV adoption accelerates.
The expansion is underpinned by significant financing: EVgo secured a $1.25 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office and a $225 million commercial bank credit facility. These funds provide the capital necessary to build out the prefabricated stations and support the company’s long‑term growth strategy.
Dennis Kish, EVgo’s president, said the prefabrication model is a “win‑win” that fast‑tracks infrastructure deployment and supports workforce development. Pat Eliason, group president of Miller Electric, added that the collaboration “accelerates infrastructure deployment and supports domestic manufacturing and job creation—key pillars for a sustainable future.”
