Freeport-McMoRan announced that A. Cory Stevens has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Freeport Americas, effective December 1, 2025. Stevens joined the company in 1997 and has held multiple leadership roles across North and South America, most recently leading the team that developed the smelter project in Indonesia. He currently heads the company’s centralized technical organization, overseeing engineering, construction, growth projects, the innovative leach initiative, operational support and R&D.
Under the new structure, Stevens’ responsibilities will expand to include oversight of all Freeport Americas operations. The appointment signals the company’s intent to integrate technical expertise with operational execution across its U.S. and South American assets, supporting the company’s focus on cost efficiency and growth. CEO Kathleen Quirk praised Stevens as a “remarkably talented innovator” and a “champion for value creation,” underscoring the strategic importance of the role.
Josh Olmsted, who has served as Freeport Americas President and COO since 2020, will transition to a senior advisory capacity, ensuring continuity during the leadership change. The appointment is expected to strengthen operational coordination, accelerate the rollout of the leach initiative, and position Freeport to capitalize on rising copper demand in the Americas region.
