GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. has agreed to purchase Intelerad, a cloud‑based medical imaging software provider, for $2.3 billion in cash. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026 and will add Intelerad’s AI‑powered imaging solutions to GE HealthCare’s precision‑care portfolio, extending the company’s reach into outpatient and ambulatory care settings.

The deal is a strategic fit that accelerates GE HealthCare’s goal of tripling its cloud‑enabled product offerings by 2028. Intelerad’s enterprise workflow platform and AI capabilities will complement GE HealthCare’s existing imaging hardware and advanced visualization solutions, creating a unified, cloud‑first platform that can serve hospitals and outpatient networks alike. Management expects Intelerad to generate roughly $270 million in revenue in its first full year under GE HealthCare ownership, with about 90 % of that revenue being recurring.

GE HealthCare’s recent earnings show a company balancing growth and headwinds. In Q2 2025, revenue rose 3 % to $5 billion, while adjusted EPS of $1.06 beat estimates by $0.15, driven by disciplined cost control and a favorable mix shift toward higher‑margin imaging services. However, the adjusted EBIT margin fell 80 basis points to 14.6 % due to tariff impacts and supply‑chain costs, underscoring the need for continued operational efficiency. The acquisition is positioned to offset these margin pressures by adding high‑margin, recurring software revenue.

President and CEO Peter Arduini said the Intelerad purchase “brings additional cloud‑enabled and intelligent solutions in radiology and cardiology into our portfolio, extending our capabilities into outpatient networks and enabling care teams to be more efficient, improve outcomes, and deliver precision care for patients globally.” Roland Rott, GE HealthCare Imaging president, added that Intelerad’s cloud expertise will “combine GE HealthCare’s medical device and AI competence at global scale with Intelerad’s enterprise cloud and imaging expertise.” Intelerad CEO Jordan Bazinsky noted that joining GE HealthCare “marks an exciting new chapter for Intelerad, leveraging GE’s global scale to accelerate the expansion of our connected imaging software.”

The acquisition is expected to strengthen GE HealthCare’s competitive position in a market increasingly focused on digital transformation and AI integration. By adding Intelerad’s cloud platform, GE HealthCare can offer a more comprehensive, AI‑enabled imaging solution that spans the entire patient journey, from imaging acquisition to clinical decision support. This move aligns with industry trends toward precision medicine and outpatient care, positioning GE HealthCare to capture growing demand for cloud‑based imaging workflows and AI analytics.
