GlobalFoundries announced a licensing agreement with TSMC for 650‑volt and 80‑volt Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, a move that will enable the company to produce advanced power devices in the United States.

Under the agreement, GlobalFoundries will qualify the licensed GaN technology at its Burlington, Vermont facility, which has a long history of high‑voltage GaN‑on‑Silicon development. Development is slated for early 2026, with production expected to begin later that year.

The partnership positions GlobalFoundries to compete more aggressively in high‑power markets such as automotive, data‑center, and industrial power applications. GaN technology offers higher efficiency, power density, and compactness, addressing the growing demand for greener, more powerful power solutions in these sectors.

By accessing proven GaN technology, GlobalFoundries can accelerate time‑to‑market for new products, potentially increase revenue streams, and reinforce its strategic focus on essential chip technologies for high‑growth sectors.

The licensing deal expands GlobalFoundries’ differentiated power portfolio and strengthens its U.S. manufacturing footprint, aligning with broader industry trends toward domestic production of advanced power devices.
