Guardant Health, Inc. announced that its Shield blood test for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening is now covered by a key healthcare insurance program for U.S. veterans. The test is covered for patients receiving community care authorized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as an in-network benefit. This coverage applies to average-risk individuals aged 45 or older, with no copay. Following Medicare coverage in August 2024, this VA network coverage is the first for individuals between the ages of 45 and 64, expanding access to approximately 9.1 million beneficiaries. AmirAli Talasaz, Guardant Health co-CEO, stated that this decision broadens the impact of the screening test to help detect more colorectal cancer early. The Shield blood test is FDA approved for primary non-invasive screening for CRC in average-risk individuals age 45 and older.
