Gouverneur Bancorp, Inc. announced on August 12, 2025, the appointment of Stephen M. Jefferies as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2, 2025. Mr. Jefferies will also join the Board of Directors of both the Company and the Bank.
Mr. Jefferies brings nearly 40 years of experience in the banking industry to his new role. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Bank & Trust in LaGrange, Georgia, from March 2022 to April 2025. Prior to that, he was Chief Lending Officer at U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union.
Concurrent with this appointment, Charles C. Van Vleet, Jr. will retire as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2, 2025. Mr. Van Vleet intends to remain with the company through December 31, 2025, to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
