Canadian MDA Space announced an expanded contract with Globalstar to develop the next generation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, bringing the total contract value to approximately C$1.1 billion (US$767.19 million). This definitive contract follows an initial Authorization to Proceed announced in November 2023. As part of this agreement, MDA Space will manufacture more than 50 MDA AURORA™ software-defined digital satellites for Globalstar. This significant investment is crucial for Globalstar's next-generation LEO constellation, known as the C-3 system. The full contract value, including approximately $750 million added to MDA Space's backlog in Q1 2025, underscores the scale of Globalstar's commitment to upgrading its satellite infrastructure. This expansion is essential for increasing network capacity, resiliency, and reach to support future services.
