Gray Media announced that three of its stations and its national investigative unit, InvestigateTV, were honored with Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Awards for outstanding watchdog journalism. WANF in Atlanta, Georgia, and InvestigateTV won in Video Division II for their two-year investigation, "In Plane Sight: The Fix," which led to the U.S. Department of Justice suspending a nationwide airport search program. WSMV in Nashville, Tennessee, was recognized in Video Division III for "Predator: System Failure," a four-year investigation that exposed significant mishandling of sexual assault complaints and resulted in an overhaul of Nashville’s sex crimes unit. KMOV in St. Louis, Missouri, was a finalist in Video Division III for "Secrets of a School Shooting Revealed," for its persistent reporting on a school shooting that uncovered previously secret public records. Sandy Breland, Gray’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, emphasized Gray’s investment in journalism that uncovers truth, finds solutions, and generates real results for the communities it serves. These awards highlight the impactful investigative culture across Gray Media's newsrooms and reinforce the company's commitment to public service journalism.
