Himax Technologies’ subsidiary Liqxtal and partner iCatch announced a new drone‑AI imaging platform that will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2026. The solution marries Liqxtal’s long‑range electro‑optical and thermal infrared camera system with iCatch’s high‑performance edge‑AI system‑on‑chip, delivering up to 4 TOPS of on‑device AI processing for real‑time image analysis and object recognition.

The integrated architecture reduces system complexity and enhances data security, positioning the product for high‑growth markets such as aerial photography, security surveillance and industrial inspection. Liqxtal’s lightweight dual‑spectrum camera module offers up to 20× optical zoom and thermal imaging, while iCatch’s SoC provides electronic image stabilization and a suite of image‑processing technologies.

By launching this drone AI platform, Himax expands its optics and AI portfolio beyond automotive and consumer displays, targeting the expanding UAV market and reinforcing its strategy to combine advanced optics with low‑power AI processing. The announcement marks a tangible step toward monetizing the company’s emerging technologies and could open new revenue opportunities in the drone and industrial inspection sectors.

Dr. Hung Shan Chen, President of Liqxtal, said the collaboration “fully leverages Liqxtal’s expertise in optics and imaging system integration, together with iCatch’s strengths in edge‑AI computing and intelligent image processing, enabling a high level of integration between optical imaging and AI vision processing, further expanding application scenarios such as drone/UAV aerial photography and industrial remote inspection.”

The launch aligns with Himax’s broader diversification strategy, which has focused on automotive, AI sensing, co‑packaged optics and micro‑display markets. The drone market is projected to grow rapidly, and the new platform positions Himax to capture a share of this expanding opportunity while offsetting softness in its legacy display driver IC business.
