Honda announced a recall of 256,603 Accord Hybrid vehicles from the 2023‑2025 model years after discovering a software error in the Integrated Control Module (ICM) that can cause the module to reset and result in a sudden loss of drive power.
The error originates from a supplier’s misinterpretation of the ICM’s CPU‑abnormality monitoring software, leading the module to flag normal internal communication errors as CPU faults and trigger unnecessary resets. Honda confirmed that improper software programming by the supplier caused the defect.
Honda has already integrated the corrected software into production vehicles as of October 24, 2025, and dealers will perform a free software update. Owners will receive notification letters beginning January 5, 2026, but the remedy is available now and can be applied immediately at a dealership.
The recall has generated 832 warranty claims as of November 6, 2025, and an estimated 0.3% of the recalled vehicles are expected to experience the defect. No injuries or crashes have been reported related to the issue.
This recall represents a significant safety and compliance event for Honda, affecting a large fleet and requiring substantial resources for investigation and repair. It follows recent recalls for wheel detachment and brake‑pedal defects, underscoring the importance of rigorous software validation.
Honda’s commitment to addressing the defect promptly and providing a free update reflects its focus on safety and regulatory compliance, and the recall is expected to have limited impact on the company’s financial performance given the small percentage of vehicles likely to be affected.
