FLYING WHALES has selected Hexcel Corporation for the supply of composite materials for its LCA60T airship project. This collaboration aims to develop adapted solutions for airship structures to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Hexcel's HexTow® IMA Carbon Fiber has been chosen for the pultruded tubes that form the skeleton of the airship. This material offers an excellent balance between cost-efficiency and superior mechanical properties, including high tensile strength and modulus, making it suitable for the innovative structure.
Hexcel has developed a comprehensive range of cutting-edge composite materials, including prepregs, carbon fibers, fabrics, and adhesives, to meet the specific technical constraints of the LCA60T airship. The LCA60T is designed for transporting heavy loads, with a carrying capacity of 60 tonnes, and aims to provide logistical solutions with a very low environmental footprint.
