Hexcel Corporation and the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Hexcel Application Center at NIAR ATLAS in Kansas. This collaboration aims to broaden the development and application of composite materials in the aerospace and defense industries.

Hexcel will donate over $10 million in state-of-the-art equipment to the center, including an Advanced Fiber Placement (AFP) machine and an autoclave. The Hexcel Application Center will focus on key areas such as automated layup, liquid composite molding, high-temperature carbon-based materials, and advanced material processing to support high-rate manufacturing.

This initiative is expected to accelerate innovation, enhance the U.S. composite industry's competitiveness, and create new opportunities for workforce development and economic growth. The research efforts will also benefit from the National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP) database, which provides pre-qualified material property data critical for commercial aerospace, defense, and space applications.
