Hyperfine, Inc. announced that it has received a $3.7 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the expanded use of its Swoop portable magnetic‑resonance imaging system in underserved communities worldwide.

The grant, which will fund research and development for AI‑based image‑clarity pipelines and neonatal brain‑development protocols, extends through 2028 and will advance the UNITY project led by King’s College London. The focus is on neonatal scanning to evaluate neuro‑development in infants and young children, a key population that currently lacks access to conventional MRI scanners.

Hyperfine’s Q3 2025 financials showed a net loss of $0.14 per share and revenue of $3.4 million, slightly below analyst expectations. The new grant provides non‑dilutive capital that will help offset operating costs, accelerate clinical validation studies, and support regulatory submissions in new markets, thereby strengthening the company’s balance sheet and supporting its growth trajectory in the second half of 2025 and beyond.

The funding aligns with Hyperfine’s mission to make high‑quality brain imaging more accessible and affordable. It also complements the company’s recent FDA clearance of the next‑generation Swoop system and Optive AI software, its expansion into international markets, and its partnership with NVIDIA to accelerate AI development.

President and CEO Maria Sainz said, “This new grant reflects not only confidence in our technology, but also in our readiness to scale solutions that matter. We are proud to advance global health by making imaging technology more accessible in all parts of the world with the support from the Gates Foundation as we continue working with the UNITY project and its researchers on efforts that promote the healthy development of young children around the globe.”

Hyperfine has previously received a $3.3 million Gates Foundation grant in November 2021 to expand portable MRI use in developing countries, and the current award builds on that legacy, positioning the company to broaden adoption and reimbursement pathways for its AI‑powered, ultra‑low‑field MRI technology.
