InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) announced on 2025‑10‑21 that it has renewed its patent license agreement with Sharp and signed a new agreement with an electric‑vehicle charger manufacturer. The Sharp renewal covers InterDigital’s wireless and video standard technologies, including 4G, 5G, Wi‑Fi and HEVC, while the new EV‑charger license covers home and commercial charging solutions.
The renewal extends InterDigital’s presence in the consumer electronics market and maintains its coverage of roughly 85% of the global smartphone market. The addition of an EV‑charger license marks the company’s first entry into the automotive/IoT licensing program, opening a new revenue stream and broadening its portfolio beyond smartphones and PCs.
Julia Mattis, InterDigital’s Chief Licensing Officer, said the renewal and new agreement “demonstrate the value of our innovation in both the smartphone and IoT markets” and that the company remains on course to hit its $500 million annualized recurring revenue goal in the smartphone program by 2027.
