IperionX Limited announced on October 5, 2025, the successful acquisition of Blacksand Technology LLC’s assets and intellectual property portfolio. This acquisition secures IperionX’s exclusive commercial rights to key patented and proprietary technologies, including Green Rutile, Alkaline Roasting Hydrolysis, Hydrogen Assisted Metallothermic Reduction (HAMR™), and Hydrogen Sintering and Phase Transformation (HSPT™).
These complementary technologies offer significant advantages over the incumbent Kroll titanium production process, including lower energy consumption, reduced capital expenditure, faster cycle times, and higher product yields. They also enable the utilization of 100% scrap titanium or upgraded titanium minerals as feedstocks, supporting a circular economy model.
IperionX is now commercializing this technology portfolio at its Titanium Manufacturing Campus in Virginia. The company had successfully commissioned the new HAMR furnace and delivered its first titanium deoxygenation production run in Virginia in August 2024, demonstrating the commercial-scale capabilities of these technologies prior to the acquisition's completion.
