Centrus Energy announced on September 25, 2025, plans for a major expansion of its uranium enrichment plant in Piketon, Ohio. This project is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs and 300 new operations jobs at the Piketon site, while retaining 127 existing positions.
The expansion aims to boost both Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) production, which are critical fuels for current and next-generation nuclear reactors. The ultimate size and scope of this multi-billion-dollar private and public investment are contingent on federal funding decisions from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Centrus has already raised over $1.2 billion in convertible note transactions and secured more than $2 billion in contingent purchase commitments from utility customers to support this expansion. The company's American Centrifuge technology, manufactured in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with a nationwide supply chain, will be central to this effort to restore America's uranium enrichment capacity at scale.
