Alliant Energy secured a contract to supply up to 190 Nordex N133 and N163 Delta4000 wind turbines, adding roughly 1,060 MW of wind capacity to its portfolio. The deal is the largest U.S. volume award in Nordex’s 25‑year history and will be installed in Iowa and other Midwest sites in 2028‑2029.

The agreement aligns with Alliant’s 2025‑2029 capital plan, which now projects a 17 % increase in capex to $13.4 billion and a 12 % rate‑base growth. The new wind capacity will help the utility meet Iowa and Wisconsin renewable portfolio standards and support the company’s “Energy Blueprint,” which balances wind, solar, hydropower, natural gas, and storage.

Alliant’s Q3 2025 earnings showed a slight EPS miss of $1.09 versus $1.15 in the prior year, but revenue rose 23.3 % year‑over‑year to $2.59 billion. The company’s guidance for 2025 ongoing EPS was narrowed to $3.17‑$3.23, while 2026 guidance was raised to $3.36‑$3.46, reflecting confidence in continued data‑center demand and the new capital plan.

Management highlighted the strategic importance of the contract. CEO Lisa Barton said the partnership “underscores our confidence in Nordex’s technology and our commitment to delivering reliable, clean power that supports local communities and the growing data‑center market.” Executive Vice President Antonio Smyth added that Nordex’s supply‑chain discipline and project execution will help Alliant meet its renewable targets on schedule.

The contract is expected to create manufacturing jobs at Nordex’s West Branch, Iowa facility, and spur economic development in the region. Analysts noted that the deal reinforces Alliant’s focus on data‑center growth, which is projected to drive a 50 % increase in peak energy consumption by 2030, and that the company’s increased capex and strategic investments in storage and solar are positioning it for long‑term growth.

The wind project will also help Alliant meet regulatory requirements. Iowa’s Renewable Portfolio Standard requires utilities to generate a minimum share of energy from renewables, and the new turbines will contribute directly to that target. In Wisconsin, the contract supports the state’s evolving renewable goals and positions Alliant to capitalize on future rate‑base expansion.
