Light & Wonder, Inc. provided an update on April 2, 2025, regarding its ongoing litigation with Aristocrat in the U.S. District Court of Nevada. Aristocrat filed a second amended complaint on March 14, 2025, adding a trade secret misappropriation claim against Light & Wonder's game, Jewel of the Dragon, which was not part of the initial claims. Light & Wonder stated its intention to vigorously defend against these new issues and plans to respond to the amended complaint by April 11, 2025.
The company announced its decision to stop commercializing and offer to remove Jewel of the Dragon. However, Light & Wonder reaffirmed its 2025 $1.4 billion Targeted Consolidated AEBITDA and Targeted Adjusted NPATA range of $565 million to $635 million, stating that the Jewel of the Dragon decision is not expected to have a material effect on its revenue or financial targets. This follows the company's compliance with the September 23, 2024, preliminary injunction on Dragon Train, converting approximately 95% of 2,200 units from its North American gaming operations fleet within 30 days.
Light & Wonder also disclosed that an internal review led to the termination of Emma Charles, the game designer responsible for Dragon Train, for breaching her employment obligations. A broad third-party audit by gaming expert Mark Nicely found no evidence of similar issues for other hold and spin games released from mid-2021, when Emma Charles joined, through to the present. The company emphasized its robust and diversified portfolio, which is not tied to any single game or franchise.
