Mattel announced on July 8, 2025, the debut of the first Barbie doll with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). This addition to the Barbie line aims to expand representation, allowing more children to see themselves reflected in dolls and fostering greater inclusion and empathy through doll play.
To ensure accurate design, Barbie partnered with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), a leading global T1D research and advocacy organization. The doll accurately reflects medical equipment used by individuals with T1D, including an insulin pump and glucose monitor.
Barbie donated dolls to the Breakthrough T1D 2025 Children's Congress and honored Peloton Instructor Robin Arzón and model Lila Moss, both T1D advocates, with their own one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls. The 2025 Barbie Fashionistas dolls, including the T1D doll, are available on Mattel Shop and at retailers nationwide, with a commitment to using ISCC-Certified bio-circular plastic.
