MiMedx Group, Inc. on July 15, 2025, commented on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) release of the CY 2026 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) proposal. The proposed rule, published on July 14, 2025, calls for a shift from the Average Sales Price (ASP) methodology to a fixed payment of $125.38 per square centimeter for all skin substitutes. Joseph H. Capper, MiMedx CEO, welcomed the proposed reform, highlighting that Medicare spend for skin substitutes in private office settings had surged from approximately $1.5 billion in 2022 to nearly $10 billion in 2024. He stated that reimbursement reform is long overdue to diminish fraud, waste, and abuse. MiMedx believes it is well-positioned to thrive in an environment where product capabilities, supported by robust clinical evidence, determine selection and usage. The proposed PFS rules, along with the Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model and pending Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), are all slated for implementation on January 1, 2026.
