MKS Instruments, Inc. celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of its new super center factory in Penang, Malaysia, on October 24, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility is planned to be located on a 17-acre plot, spanning approximately 500,000 square feet, and is projected to employ about 1,000 people.
The new factory will be constructed in multiple phases, with the first phase anticipated for completion in the first half of 2026. This expansion is designed to support the increasing needs of semiconductor equipment for wafer fabrication both regionally and globally.
Dr. John T.C. Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of MKS, stated that establishing a significant presence in Penang is part of the company's strategic and long-term capital planning. This move positions MKS closer to its customers, suppliers, and a robust technology infrastructure, including a deep and talented labor pool, to spur innovation and enhance capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing applications.
