Motorola Solutions Introduces Drone Dispatch Capability on APX NEXT Radios

October 16, 2025
On October 16, 2025, Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) announced a new capability that allows first‑responders to dispatch a drone directly from their APX NEXT smart radio. The integration brings together BRINC’s responder drone platform and SkySafe’s drone‑detection and airspace‑intelligence SaaS, enabling a seamless end‑to‑end workflow from the field to the command center. When an officer presses the emergency button on the APX NEXT radio, a mission is automatically created in CommandCentral Aware. The system can launch a BRINC Responder drone to the officer’s location, carry a life‑saving payload such as a defibrillator, EpiPen or flotation device, and stream live video back to the command center. Motorola’s Assist AI analyzes the radio transcript in real time, flagging keywords like "heart attack" to provide additional situational awareness to responders. This feature expands Motorola Solutions’ product portfolio into the rapidly growing drone‑as‑a‑service market, creating a new revenue opportunity and strengthening its competitive moat in public‑safety communications. By adding drone dispatch to its APX NEXT ecosystem, the company can offer a more comprehensive, integrated solution to agencies, potentially driving higher adoption and recurring software revenue from associated command‑center services.
